The "crooked serpent" is one of the constellations, all of which God's hand formed, presumably as signs of His redemptive promises. The serpent is depicted in the ancient star charts as being slain by the great Lion, probably reflecting the protevangelic promise of Genesis 3:15 (Job 9:8,9; 38:31-33).
