The Midianites were a group of nomadic tribes descended from Abraham through his wife, Keturah (Genesis 25:1-4). This particular tribe was apparently closely allied with the Moabites and participated with the Moabites in the seduction of Israel into fornication and idolatry (Numbers 25:6,16-18).
