The Trinity

We know from God's general revelation (His creation and our consciences) that there is a god; but only through God's special revelation (His infallible Word) do we learn who God is. Only the Bible reveals the truth of the Trinity.

The word "trinity" is an abbreviation for the word "tri-unity." "Tri" means "three" and "unity" refers to "oneness." "Trinity," therefore, means "three-in-one."

Scripture reveals that there is one God and that God is indivisible. Yet in this one God there are three distinct Persons:

    1. God the Father

    2. God the Son

    3. God the Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost)

In God there is one eternal Being. There is one intelligence and one will; and yet the three divine Persons exercise this one intelligence and will. The three divine Persons are distinct from, and communicate with, one another. The divine Being is not divided among the three Persons, but is fully, with all its perfections, in each of the Persons. Yet, there are not three Gods, but one - one eternal, divine Being. There are three divine Persons in one Godhead - three in one.

  • Trinity - The three distinct divine Persons in one divine Being; three Persons in one Godhead; one God revealed in three Persons

  • Indivisible - Cannot be divided or separated

  •

And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear 0 Israel; the Lord our God is one Lord.

    - Mark 12:29

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

    - I John 5:7

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

    - 11 Corinthians 13:14
