How do the texts listed here regarding the Holy Spirit and those in Chapter Ten regarding Jesus Christ, teach that the doctrine of the Trinity is a core truth of Scripture?

  • Ascribing - Assigning; giving; crediting; attributing

  • Omnipresence - Everywhere-present; being in all places at all times

  • Omniscience - All-knowing; having a perfect knowledge of all things
  • We know from the Bible that God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are actual, divine Persons because Scripture gives to both the following four characteristics:

      1. Divine names

      2. Divine attributes

      3. Divine works

      4. Divine honors

Example texts from these four headings regarding God the Son are given in Chapter Ten when dealing with the divine and human natures of Christ.

The following chart provides scriptural proof that the Holy Spirit is a divine Person by ascribing divine names, attributes, works, and honors to Him.

The Holy Spirit is a Divine Person
for the Bible ascribes to Him:
    1. Divine Names - Names that can only be given to God

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

    - I Corinthians 3:16

But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost... thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

    - Acts 5:34

    2. Divine Attributes - Attributes of God alone

    a. Omnipresence

Whither shall I go from Thy Spirit? or whither shall I flee from Thy presence?

If I ascend up into heaven, Thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, Thou art there.

    - Psalm 139:7-8

    b. Omniscience

But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so, the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

    - I Corinthians 2:10-11
