For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Having made known unto us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He hath purposed in Himself:

That in the dispensation of the fulness of times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in Him;

In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will.

1. Scripture speaks of God's plan of redemption being included in the eternal decree or counsel of God.

According as He hath chosen us in Him. before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love;

Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will.

- Ephesians 1:4-5

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.

- II Timothy 1:9

2. From eternity, the elements oj a covenant were present, such as agreeing parties, conditions to be met, and a promise.

Agreeing Parties

I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto Me, Thou art My Son; this day have I begotten Thee.

- Psalm 2:7

Conditions

Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of Me,

I delight to do Thy will, 0 My God: yea, Thy law is within My heart.

Promise

Ask of Me, and I shall give Thee the heathen for Thy inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for Thy possession.

3. Christ's speaking repeatedly of a commission which He previously received from His Father, and had come upon this earth to fulfill.

For I came down from heaven, not to do Mine own will, but the will of Him that sent Me.

And this is the Father's will which hath sent Me, that of all which He hath given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

- John 6:38-39

4. Christ is clearly spoken of as the second Covenant Head, salvation through Him was promised from Paradise.

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel.
