No other creature, neither saint nor angel, could be our mediator. This is true for the following reasons:

No Other Creature (Neither Saint Nor Angel) Can Be Our Mediator, Because:

A Saint:

An Angel:

1. Is born with the guilt and pollution of original sin

Cannot satisfy God's justice which requires that the same human nature which sinned must pay the penalty for sin

2. Commits actual sins in thoughts, words, and actions

Cannot physically suffer nor die - the penalty for sin

3. Stands in need of a mediator to make satisfaction for his own sins

Cannot be man's second covenant head, kinsman, redeemer, or high priest

4. Could never bear or satisfy the full wrath of God against sin

5. Could never give an infinite value to his work

6. Does not have the power to lay down, and to take up, his life again

7. Can not apply the righteousness earned to sinners

For these reasons, Scripture strictly forbids us to trust in, pray to, or worship saints or angels. Jesus Christ is the only Mediator God, alone, may be prayed to, worshipped, and trusted.

How do the following scriptural examples illustrate the truth that neither saints nor angels may be worshipped?

Peter at the home of Cornelius

And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.

But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.

Acts 10:25-26

  • Saint - A regenerated person; a child of God

For there is one God, an~ one Mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus.

    - I Timothy 2:5

And to Jesus, the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that ,peaketh better things than that of Abel

    - Hebrews 12:24

Why would God's saints and angels despise and hate the very thought of being a mediator for lost sinners?

How do the charts on the previous pages confirm the truth of Acts 4:12 and I Timothy 2:5?

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.

For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus.
