Two passengers were once talking together in a crowded train car. They were discussing the foolishness of believing in Christianity by relating cases of hypocrisy, corruption, and public sin in the lives of several Christian people they had known.

As the talking and laughing grew louder, several other passengers could not help but overhear this mockery, also. Finally, a young man turned to the loud mockers and said, "You have been telling story after story about the failings of Christians. I am a Christian. The faith of true believers is not based upon other Christians - it is founded upon Jesus Christ. I challenge you to now speak about His faults and sins!"

The passengers were suddenly privileged with a quiet ride. Later, several went up to the young man to individually thank him for his fitting correction.

How does this story illustrate the truth that only Jesus Christ, and not saints, can be worshipped and trusted as our mediator?

To be saved, sinful man required a mediator who was God, human, and perfectly sinless - all in one person. Where could such a person be found? No angel or man could ever have thought of a way in which God and sinners could be reconciled.

But, blessed be God! He presented His Son - One who was God, took upon Himself the human nature by being born from Mary, and lived a perfectly sinless life. Jesus Christ - God's justice was fully satisfied in His obedience and death, and God's mercy was fully glorified in His suffering and dying for guilty sinners.

All of Christianity hangs upon the one, only, perfect Mediator - Jesus Christ. Is He your hope, desire, and life?

But while he thought on' these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, I hou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call His name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sins.

Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.-

- Matthew 1:20-23

For He hath made Himself to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

- II Corinthians 5:21
