Historical faith is good, but it is not sufficient. We must continually learn more about the truths of God's Word, but this knowledge is not saving. To be saved, a person needs to experience deep, personal knowledge, love, and trust in God, which renews is total being -a faith which turns his will, emotions, thoughts, and actions from love of self, sin, and world to God and others.

Explain how the following are scriptural examples of historical faith.

    Acts 26:27-29

King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest.

Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.

And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.

    Acts 8:13,21-23

Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.

Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.

For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.

    James 2:19

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

How can historical faith be compared to an artificial flower? What does it miss that saving faith contains, as described in the following verses?

John 8:32

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Psalm 119:103

How sweet are Thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

How are possessors of only historical faith actually "halting between two opinions"? What did Elijah command all such halting persons in I Kings 18:21?
