Two young men were sailing a small boat on the ocean near a rugged, rocky coastline. Several buoys had been placed in the water as warning barriers, indicating which areas were unsafe for boats due to dangerous currents, shallow waters, or hazardous, underwater rocks.

However, one daringly and loudly proclaimed to the other, "We don't have to pay any attention to those buoys. Nobody can tell us where we can sail. They just put those markers there to keep us from having fun, I bet just so we don't sail where it's the most fun!"

Recklessly and laughingly, they sailed in the forbidden area until their boat suddenly rammed a hidden, underwater rock, split into pieces, and left them clinging desperately to its battered remains, yelling for help.

What serious mistake did the young men make regarding the buoys? Were the buoys placed where they were to limit or to ensure their freedom to safely sail that area of the ocean coast?

The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

- Psalm 19:7

Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

- Romans 7:12

But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully.

- I Timothy 1:8

  • Adam and Eve's original sin included rebellion against God's authority. How can this same sin be observed in our society today? How can original sin be detected in our own hearts? Provide examples.
