While the Old Testament priesthood of Aaron pictured Christ's work as Priest in many ways, the priesthood of Christ was much greater. The following chart illustrates this truth.

Manner Example Text

1. Aaron's priesthood had sinful men in the priest's office, but Christ was true God and a perfectly sinless Person.

Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for His own sins, and then for the people's: for this He did once, when He offered up Himself.

- Hebrews 7:27

2. The men serving in Aaron's priesthood changed due to death, but Christ continues as Priest forever.

And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:

But this Man, because He continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

- Hebrews 7:23-24

3. Aaron's priesthood offered the blood of bulls and goats, but Christ offered His own life.

For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:

How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

- Hebrews 9: 13-14

4. The offerings of Aaron's priesthood could not pay the price for sin, but Christ's offer-ing paid the full price.

For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

- Hebrews 10:4,10

5. Aaron's offerings had to be repeated every day, but Christ's one sacrifice paid the full death penalty for His Church.

And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

For by one offering He hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

- Hebrews 10:11-12,14

6. Aaron's priesthood is of a lower order than Christ's - Christ's is a royal priesthood.

Jesus, made an High Priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

- Hebrews 6:20b

Why is it a denial of Christ's priesthood to have priests, altars. and sacrifices in our church worship today?

If we are not to practice the ceremonial laws of the Old Testa-ment today, why are they in the Bible?
