God's law was given to His covenant people; the ten commandments were spoken and given to Israel at Mount Sinai. The law is included in God's manifestation of His Covenant of Grace. This scriptural truth is established by considering the following reasons.

Example Text

1. The law's personal use of God's covenant Name

And God spake all these words, saying,

I am the LORD thy God.

- Exodus 20:1-2a

2. The law's personal use of deliverance language

I am the LORD, thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

- Exodus 20:2

3. The law's personal use of gracious language
(of showing mercy)

And shewing mercy to thousands of them that love Me, and keep My commandments.

- Exodus 20:6

4. The law's visible seal was the sprinkling of the blood

And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words.

- Exodus 24:8

5. The law's Ordainer was the Mediator

And it (the law) was ordained by angels in the hand of a Mediator.

- Galatians 3:19b

6. The law's covenant basis being the same as that established with Israel's forefathers

Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which He sware unto thy fathers.

- Deuteronomy 7:12

7. The law's use as a means of grace

Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made.

- Galatians 3:l9a

  • Manifestation - Revelation; display; demonstration; making known

  • Under which form of the revelation of the Covenant of Grace did God especially reveal His civil and ceremonial laws and write in stone His moral law (see Chapter 9)?
