Is all use of sports wrong? Is personal physical fitness sinful? Is all participation in group games improper? To properly address these questions, we must examine several scriptural principles pertaining to man's body and its health and fitness.

God created us with the following aspects of human personhood:

All four aspects of human personhood are God-given and important. The health of each must be promoted. While all four are to be valued, according to Scripture, they are not of equal value. They are ranked in importance as follows:

    1. Spiritual aspect
    2. Emotional aspect
    3. Mental aspect
    4. Physical aspect

Physical health, physical fitness, and physical education are important for the following four reasons:

    1. God made man's body.

    2. God cares for the needs of man's body.

    3. Man is to treasure God's gift of a healthy body; he is to use all proper means to maintain its health and to avoid all damaging, careless, or reckless means which promote its destruction.

And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

- Mark 12:30

Why should a Christian School education include physical education? How should it rank in importance with the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of education? How can physical education be overvalued or undervalued?

I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are Thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

- Psalm 139:14

And His fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto Him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and He healed them.

- Matthew 4:24

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

- I Corinthians 6:19-20
