Read the following statements from various church members. Explain which of the four church attributes are being contradicted by these wrong views, and why.
"I don't believe it is right to talk about spiritual things with anyone outside of my church denomination. If that person were a true Christian he would join my church."
"I do not believe that one should talk with others about religious thoughts and experiences. This is a matter between God and that person alone."
"The stricter the better, I say! We should not allow men as members whose hair is more than two-and-a-half inches (seven centimeters) long, who have beards or moustaches, or who wear a gold ring or watch!"
As expressions which take away from or add to God's Word, these views reflect disobedience and will tend to destroy God's church. Why?
Scripture assigns seven principal duties to the church of God on earth. These duties are true for each individual member, but also collectively as a body of believers. The chart on the following page lists each duty with a sample text.
True church strictness is to be strictly biblical. Why? Why does the truly strict person hate all man-made religious subtractions from, and additions to, God's Word?
For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this Book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
And if any man shall take away from the words of the Book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this Book.
