times for special worship in our lives. We are called to bring praise to God indirectly through the means of our daily work, but we are called to praise Him directly in our worship.

Therefore, private worship, your personal, devotional time, is very important. Worship importance is magnified when we consider public worship, for then God's children gather together, as a family, to worship the Lord in unity. The special significance of public worship testifies of the importance of the liturgy - the procedure used for public worship.

Our liturgy is to reflect the biblical principles regarding divine worship listed in the following chart.

SEVEN SCRIPTURAL PRINCIPLES CONCERNING DIVINE WORSHIP
Worship is to be: Scriptural Example

1. God-focused

Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve.

- Matthew 4:10

2. Christ-centered

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.

- John 14:6

3. Spirit-moved

Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come.

- John 16:13

4. Word-based

But in vain they do worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

- Matthew 15:9

5. Heart-felt

This people draweth nigh unto Me with their mouth, and honoreth Me with their lips; but their heart is far from Me.

- Matthew 15:8

6. Church-shared

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

- Hebrews 10:25

7. Lord's Day-observed

And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

- Acts 20:7

What errors result from under-emphasizing and over-emphasizing the differences between Sunday worship and weekly life?

LORD, I have loved the habitation of Thy house, and the place where Thine honour dwelleth.

- Psalm 26:8

For a day in Thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

- Psalm 84:10

The LORD loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.

- Psalm 87:2

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

- Hebrews 10:25
