When a minister is preaching, should you view him in his officebearing or in his personal capacity? Why?
Be edifying in length and content - Congregational prayers should be long enough to seriously address the previously stated matters, yet short enough to avoid wordiness and repetition. Its content should be clear and precise. Congregational prayer should not be a "sermon," "news bulletin," means to reprimand the congregation, or explanation of doctrinal or experiential matters. Prayer should not be directed to the congregation, but to God.
6. Preaching of the Word - Preaching is an official proclamation and explanation of God's Word by His ordained servants in a congregational worship service. The importance of preaching as a primary means of grace is demonstrated by the scriptural references in the box below:
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE PREACHING OF GOD'S WORD
How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.
- Romans 10:14-17
Then saith He unto His disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest. that He will send forth labourers into His harvest.
- Matthew 9:37-38
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
- I Corinthians 1:18,21
For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the Word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the Word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
- I Thessalonians 2:13
But hath in due times manifested His Word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour.
- Titus 1:3
The preaching of God's Word is to be four-fold; it is to be:
Preaching is to declare and expound God's Word, God's law and gospel, not a minister's own ideas.
