The history of God's church on earth dates back to the beginning, to the creation of Adam and Eve. The Belgic Confession of Faith states the following in Article 27: "This Church hath been from the beginning of the world, and will be to the end thereof. The Heidelberg Catechism confesses in Lord's Day 21: "That the Son of God, from the beginning to the end of the world, gathers, defends, and preserves to Himself by His Spirit and Word, out of the whole human race, a church chosen to everlasting life."
The timelines on the following pages reveal the major events and persons in church history from creation until now: major false religions, church denominations, and covenant periods of administration. The first timeline summarizes the church's Old Testament history (4000 B.C. to 0 A.D.); the second, its history from 0 - 1200 A.D.; and the third, from 1200 A.D. to the present. The final timeline deals with Reformed church history - the formation of each Reformed denomination.
