After hearing God's Word preached, a person can never be the same. Why?
Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels,
In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;
How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard Him?
Why does the truth of eternal degree add significant importance to our every thought, word, and action?
But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

Why would God's punishment be more severe for Capernaum, Chorazin, and Bethsaida, than for Sodom, Tyre, and Sidon?
Those who heard and rejected God's complete Word, His law and gospel, shall be punished most severely as Capernaum, Chorazin, and Bethsaida (Matthew 11 :20-24). Those who knew and rejected God's Old Testament revelation shall be punished accordingly, as the five brothers of the rich man (Luke 16:27-31). Those who perish under God's law shall be judged by the law, and those who perish without knowing God's written law shall be judged by the law of their conscience.
