Ned became addicted to his habits, however. Not only did he purchase different magazines, but he also would sneak away to see pornographic films or videos. He felt very guilty about his habits but he could not seem to overcome them.
His marriage increasingly suffered. He loved his wife, but his strong desires for self-satisfaction and for viewing other women overcame his feelings. He began attending immoral nightclubs. His frequent lustful thinking about other women caused him to look at others this way and after five years of marriage and several adulterous affairs, he contracted a serious sexually-transmitted disease.
His wife was so shocked after he confessed his behavior that she left him with their two children. Heartbroken and deeply disappointed with himself, he cried out in despair, "Why can't I control myself! I know it has wrecked me and my family. Why can't I stop?"
Why is being involved with pornography a very dangerous and harmful step?
The following story illustrates an opposite experience:
Dan resisted pornographic temptations in his early teen years and found friends that would not influence him in that direction. Later he resisted the theater temptation, even when some of his friends went. He refused to see indecent videos others had rented.
In his second year of college he met Laura, a girl from a family that moved to his city and church. They began dating and their love for one another grew steadily. By God's grace, Dan's previous experiences of overcoming lustful temptations were a means of strength to him now, a help in resisting desires to overstep the proper pacing of physical expression during their dating time.
Two years later they were happily married. Their hearts overflowed with a pureness of joy, the joy of a clean conscience. Their first years of marriage were doubly precious - their rich reward for following God's order.
Dan's habit of resisting lustful temptation helped him throughout his years of marriage. Lustful desires did not frequently trouble him. His sexual desires and activity had

Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
- Romans 6:12-13
Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
- Proverbs 5:8-13
And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,
Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,
He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;
Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.
