I Thirst, Thou Wounded Lamb of God
1. I thirst, Thou wounded Lamb of God,          5. How can it be, Thou heavenly King,
To wash me in Thy cleansing blood,               That Thou shouldst us to glory bring;
To dwell within Thy wounds; then pain          Make slaves the partners of Thy throne,
Is sweet, and life or death is gain.                   Decked with a never-failing crown?
2. Take this poor heart, and let it be               6. Hence our hearts melt, our eyes o’erflow,
For ever closed to all but Thee!                        Our words are lost; nor will we know,
Seal Thou my breast, and let me wear            Nor will we think of aught beside,
That p
ledge of love for ever there.                   My Lord, my Love, is crucified!
3. How blest are they who still abide,             7. Ah! Lord, enlarge our scanty thought,
Close sheltered in Thy bleeding side;              To know the wonders Thou hast wrought;
Who life and strength from thence derive,    Unloose our stammering tongues to tell
And by Thee move, and in Thee live.                Thy love immense, unsearchable.
4. What are our works, but sin and death,    8. First-born of many brethren, Thou!
Till Thou Thy quickening Spirit breathe?        To Thee, lo! all our souls we bow,
Thou giv’st the power Thy grace to move;       To Thee our hearts and hands we give,
O wondrous grace! O boundless love!           Thine may we die, Thine may we live!
