The Holy Land

The Holy Land is so small

that a soring eagle

can see almost all of it at once on a clear day.

From Dan to Beersheba

is little more than 240 kilometers,

roughly the same distance

as from New York City to Albany.

From east to west,

the Holy Land is even narrower.

At its widest point,

a hundred and sixty kilometers

lie between the Mediterranean coast

and the Arabian Desert on the east.

The land in which such great events took place

is no bigger than

the State of New Jersey

and smaller than Belgium.
